The Justice Minister has this week confirmed that free DNA tests are to be piloted within family courts, in an attempt to speed up disputes surrounding the paternity of children.
According to reports, the programme is part of an initiative aimed at tackling problems in family courts, which have seen a rise in unrepresented litigants in recent months.
Announcing the pilot scheme, the Justice Minister stated that the free DNA tests will be used to solve disputes surrounding child paternity quickly; instead of relying on three days of legal disputes, which can not only prove costly but can also lead to further delays in resolving the dispute.
In addition to announcing the pilot of the DNA tests, the Justice Minister has called for children aged over 10 years old, to be allowed to participate in separation cases so their voices can be heard and views considered.
